THE BOLDNESS OF PETER

MICAH’S PRAYER – The Making of A Godly Man

Lord I pray that you would develop him in his heart, mind, body, soul and spirit.  Setting him apart to serve you and bring glory to your name in all of his ways and all of his days.  Father I pray that you would bless him in his knowledge of you and give him the strength, stature and wisdom of Solomon I pray that you would give him the faithfulness of Abraham and the humility of Moses.I also pray Father that you would bless him with the righteousness of Job and the eagerness of Isaiah.  I pray that you would give him the heart after you like David and the ears of Samuel that are so attentive to Your voice.  I pray Lord that You would give him the propheticness of Jeremiah and Ezekiel, the zeal of Paul and the boldness of Peter.

Peter Before The Holy Spirit
Boldly Sticks His Foot In His Mouth

  • And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. And He was stating the matter And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.” And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.

Mark 8:31-35

PETER BEFORE THE HOLY SPIRIT
Boldly Challenges Jesus

  • Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus.  But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”  Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Matthew 14:28-31

PETER BEFORE THE HOLY SPIRIT
Bold In Self-Confidence

  • “But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” But Peter said to Him, “Even though all may fall away, yet I will not.” And Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, that this very night, before a rooster crows twice, you yourself will deny Me three times.”  But Peter kept saying insistently, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And they all were saying the same thing also.

Mark 14:28-31

  • But he began to curse and swear, “I do not know this man you are talking about!” Immediately a rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, “Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And he began to weep. But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean too.”

Mark 14:70-72

PETER AFTER THE HOLY SPIRIT
Bold Preaching

  • And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit…But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words…this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power. Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand

PETER AFTER THE HOLY SPIRIT
Boldly Speaks Against Racism

  • Opening his mouth, Peter said: “I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him. “The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all)—

PETER AFTER THE HOLY SPIRIT
Boldly Speaks Against False Religious Leaders

  • Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of the people, if we are on trial today for a benefit done to a sick man, as to how this man has been made well, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by this name this man stands here before you in good health.  “He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief corner stone.  “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

Acts 4:8-12

  • Now as they observed he confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus… But so that it will not spread any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no longer to any man in this name.” And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.  But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard

Acts 4:13, 17-20

PETER AFTER THE HOLY SPIRIT
Bold In Faith

  • Now as Peter was traveling through all those regions, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda. There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years, for he was paralyzed. Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; get up and make your bed.” Immediately he got up. And all who lived at Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.

Acts 9:32-35

PETER AFTER THE HOLY SPIRIT
Bold In The Face Of Persecution

  • When they had brought them, they stood them before the Council. The high priest questioned them, saying, “We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross. “He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. “And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
