Sermon Outline

Dying To Live – Galatians 2:15-21

  • “We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles; nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified. “But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found sinners, is Christ then a minister of sin? May it never be! “For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I prove myself to be a transgressor. “For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God. “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. “I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”

Galatians 2:15-21

GRACE GOSPEL IS FOR ALL

  • “We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles; nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

–      Galatians 2:15-16

NOT A LICENSE TO SIN

  • “But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found sinners, is Christ then a minister of sin? May it never be!

–      Galatians 2:17

CALLED TO BE FAITHFUL, NOT RELIGOUS

  • “For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I prove myself to be a transgressor. “For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God.

–      Galatians 2:18-19

IMMUNITY OF AMBASSADORS

  • Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

–      2 Corinthians 5:17-21

DYING TO LIVE

  • “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

–      Galatians 2:20

THE LAW IS GOOD BUT WE ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH

  • For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin. For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good.

–      Romans 7:14-16

DYING TO LIVE IS A CONSISTANT THEME OF THE BIBLE

  • “He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.

–      John 12:25

  • But for Your sake we are killed all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

–      Psalm 44:22

  • Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

–      Matthew 16:24-25

DYING TO LIVE IS A CONSISTANT THEME OF THE BIBLE

  • and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

–      1 Peter 2:24

  • I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

–      1 Corinthians 15:31

  • For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

–      1 Corinthians 5:14-15

WE LIVE BY GRACE

  •   “I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”

–      Galatians 2:21
